The CENTAUR project, funded by Horizon Europe, has recently been added to the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network platform, joining the list of projects dedicated to Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction.
Launched in 2021, the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network is a community platform of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism which brings together first responders, disaster risk managers, scientists and decision-makers. It strengthens the efficiency and effectiveness of civil protection training and exercises by promoting innovation and dialogue. The platform hosts several European-funded projects working on the development of tools and activities in the field.
CENTAUR focuses on developing new service components for the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) and the Copernicus Security Service (CSS) in support of EU External and Security Actions (SESA). This is key to improving situational awareness and preparedness in the face of complex emergencies and multi-dimensional security crises, particularly those triggered by climatic extremes.
By anticipating the occurrence and potential cascading effects of climate-related crises, CENTAUR contributes to the UCPM objectives of building resilience and ensuring effective adaptation to emerging threats. Furthermore, the potential integration of CENTAUR into the broader Copernicus framework ensures that the information and tools developed are widely accessible, facilitating better cooperation and information sharing among participating states.
The inclusion of CENTAUR in the Knowledge Network is a great achievement for the project and underlines the added value that it will bring to the Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction ecosystems.
