CENTAUR’s Participation at the European Civil Protection Forum: Engaging with Key Stakeholders and Horizon Europe Projects

Last week, representatives from the CENTAUR team had the privilege of participating in the European Civil Protection Forum 2024, an important event which brought together experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders to discuss critical issues related to civil protection and disaster resilience.

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) organised this conference under the theme of ‘shaping a disaster-resilient Union: charting a path for the future of European civil protection’. The event was an opportunity to look back at what has been achieved by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, and to generate ideas for development, innovation, and collaboration in the field of disaster risk management going forward.

For CENTAUR, the event provided a unique platform to promote its objectives and activities as well as engage in meaningful conversations with various Horizon Europe projects and influential stakeholders.

During the Forum, CENTAUR representatives took the opportunity to introduce the project to new stakeholders as well and share insights into its innovative approaches to disaster resilience by focusing on how it aims to improve early warning systems and situational awareness for both urban floods and food and water insecurity.

Overall, the participation of CENTAUR representatives in the European Civil Protection Forum was a resounding success. Attendees showed genuine interest in the project and its potential impact on improving early warning systems and disaster resilience. The positive reception and constructive feedback we received will undoubtedly help the team refine its approaches and improve the outcomes.

Furthermore, the Forum underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in tackling the complex challenges associated with civil protection and disaster resilience.
