CENTAUR holds Final Demo Review, showcasing platform updates and hot-case outcomes

On 14 November 2025, the CENTAUR consortium and Advisory Board convened online for the Final Demo Review (FDR) meeting, an important milestone marking the completion of the project’s demonstration activities. The session served to review the final configuration of CENTAUR indicators, assess the latest platform updates, and present the outcomes of the hot-case analyses carried out over the past few months.

The meeting began with an overview of the project status in light of the four-month extension, followed by detailed presentations on the latest Indexes updates. The consortium introduced the refined Flood Early Warning Index (FEWI), including the results of its qualitative validation and the adjustments applied to improve warning accuracy across monitored urban areas. The updated Flood Impact Index (FII) was presented as well, now tested extensively on recent urban flood cases, as well as the newest developments of the Drought Conflict Prediction Index (DCPI), whose performance was assessed through applications in Somalia, Mali, and Mozambique, and is being tested in Ethiopia and Myanmar.

Partners then provided an update on the latest platform configuration and capabilities, showcasing the improved alert system through a live demonstration, illustrating how users can configure subscriptions and explore the expanded alert catalogue. Additional improvements were highlighted across the platform’s service and navigation components.

The consortium also reviewed the cold-hot and hot cases phase, summarising timelines, methodological updates, and the handling of discontinued layers. The consortium provided an overview of the urban-flood hot cases, including the procedures adopted to address delays and to adapt case boundaries to real-world conditions. In addition, a dedicated discussion was devoted to the Milan hot case, which included a walkthrough of the demo execution, interactions with end-users, and feedback collected through a post-event questionnaire.

The meeting concluded with an open discussion on next steps, during which consortium members and Advisory Board representatives reflected on progress achieved and the remaining actions leading up to the final stages of CENTAUR. The FDR meeting represents a key step toward the project’s closure, consolidating the technical and operational elements developed throughout its demonstration activities.
