Last week, we attended the third annual Global Flood Forecasting & Monitoring Meeting, hosted by the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS).
Over the course of two days, experts discussed the latest developments of the Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS) and the Global Flood Monitoring (GFM) tool, as well as applications of their data. CENTAUR, the only Horizon Europe project selected for the CEMS evolution call, shares objectives closely aligned with the upgrade of the flood-related products and services.
During the event, CEMS organised IGNITE talks, providing us with a stage to present our contributions to the field.
In our presentation, we gave an overview of CENTAUR and how it aims to respond to the threats posed by climate change. In particular, our presentation focused on the urban flood component of our project, presenting the conceptual model, and outlining the indicators we are currently developing.
We further explained our approach by providing use cases that illustrate how these indicators will be tested. The overall goal is to improve the ability to effectively map urban flooding, thereby contributing to improved flood forecasting and monitoring capabilities.
Additionally, the event served as a valuable platform to engage with experts in the field of flood forecasting and monitoring.
